About Paul

Paul Aranas is a lecturer, researcher and doctoral candidate. His research is on the United Nations Security Council.

At the University of Oregon, Paul was a leading voice at odds with the impending Iraq invasion. After graduation from UO, Paul attended graduate school in Europe. There, he earned his Masters Degree while studying at the Diplomatic Academy of London of the University of Westminster. In the summer of 2004, he was invited to study at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow, where he received a qualification in Russian politics and foreign affairs. He began his doctoral studies in International Affairs and Diplomacy, finishing his coursework in early 2006. He attended conferences inside the European Union, the United Nations in Geneva, the Belgian Foreign Ministry, NATO, and the International Criminal Court. He was actively involved in speaking against the Iraq war and the neo-liberal globalization that is devastating and dehumanizing the poor people of developing nations. Paul continues to speak against injustice and advocates for the oppressed: victims of unmerited poverty, unjustified war, illegal foreign occupation and inequitable exploitation.

In 2002, during the Israeli incursion into the West Bank, Paul campaigned to heighten awareness of the issues involved in The Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He also organized demonstrations to oppose Israeli policies and U.S. funding and support for them. During the days leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Paul addressed 40,000 anti-war protestors at the San Francisco Civic Center.

As a student leader at the University of San Francisco, Paul supported the national Boycott Taco Bell movement. He coordinated a campaign, which targeted the USF campus Taco Bell for its exploitation of the Florida tomato pickers. Due to this action, the university cut ties with Taco Bell less than five months later.

Post September 11th, Paul actively engaged in direct action, speaking and media outreach against the bombing of Afghanistan and U.S. foreign policy. He gave political poetry readings, held discussions and spoke on public radio.

Paul was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduation from Archbishop Riordan High School, he played college baseball.
